SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT CREATOR - GABON (PART-TIME)
JOB DESCRIPTION
WildAid is seeking a Social Media Content Creator to work on our new project in Gabon, which has the objective of raising public awareness of the effects of illegal fishing and logging, and encouraging the community of Gabon to act against these detrimental practices. The goals of the campaign are to:
1. Raise public awareness: The primary goal is to educate and inform the people of Libreville, Port Gentil, and Gabon in general about the detrimental effects of illegal fishing and logging. We will increase public understanding of the environmental, economic, and social consequences associated with these activities.
2. Behaviour change: Encourage individuals to take a stand against illegal fishing and logging by adopting sustainable practices. Motivate citizens to report illegal activities, support conservation efforts, and promote responsible fishing and logging practices.
3. Community engagement: Foster a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst the people of Gabon. Encourage active participation in events, workshops, and seminars that promote environmental conservation and sustainable resource management.
4. Advocacy and policy support: Generate public support for stronger regulations and enforcement measures against illegal fishing and logging. Advocate for policy changes that enhance the protection of marine resources and forests in Gabon.
5. Partnerships and collaborations: Establish partnerships and collaborations with local organizations, government bodies, press and influencers to create a united front against illegal activities. Leverage collective efforts to maximize the campaign's impact and sustainable outcomes.
6. Long-term awareness and behaviour shift: Create a lasting impact by instilling a sense of responsibility and understanding of the importance of preserving marine resources and forests. Lay the foundation for long-term behaviour change and sustainable practices among individuals and communities.

Job Role
Generate a regular supply of engaging and shareable social media content to support the goals of our campaign in Gabon listed above.
Content may include posts/stories/reels/videos on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc., raising awareness about the damage caused by illegal fishing and logging and the benefits of conservation. It will include creation of infographics, photos and short videos.
Identify target audience(s) for messaging and develop a strategy to reach and engage this/these audience(s), including paid promotion, hashtags etc.
Accompany film crew on filming trips, and accompany community engagement officers to events, in order to generate content. The Content Creator will also be expected to take the initiative in coming up with their own ideas to generate content.
With the rest of the team, help design campaign messaging that will resonate with Gabonese people and be effective at motivating them to take action to support conservation.
Monitor and report campaign metrics, web traffic sources, audiences, user journey etc.
Regularly monitor feedback on social media and engage with comments in a factual, professional and culturally sensitive manner. In the process, build a community around conservation in Gabon.
Present regular reports to the rest of the team about the feedback our campaign is receiving on social media, so that we can continuously refine our messaging.
Engage with WildAid’s wildlife ambassadors (celebrities, influencers) to encourage them to share relevant content on their social media accounts.
Engage with journalists and other influencers on social media to maintain a conversation about conservation on social media.
Reports to: Forestry and Wildlife Representative, Gabon
Key Competencies and Ideal Profile
We seek an entrepreneurial, outgoing person with strong communication skills. Experience in generating social media content is essential, as is a passion for wildlife conservation. We are looking for a self-starter who is capable of taking the initiative and working independently when needed, but is also comfortable working as part of a team, consulting with that team when necessary and sharing ideas freely within the team.
The successful candidate will be willing to travel within Gabon and be comfortable spending time in rural and coastal areas in order to generate content. They will be inspired by the opportunity to play a pivotal role in WildAid’s efforts to promote a sustainable model of conservation, and of interdependence between people and nature.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or journalism preferred
At least two years’ experience in content creation, social media or online community management in a professional setting
Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g. Sprout, Hootsuite), and campaign analytics tools (Google Analytics etc.)
Excellent writing and editing skills in French and English
Strong verbal communication skills in French and English
Ability to film and edit shareable content using your phone
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Highly-organised multi-tasker
Legal right to work in Gabon
Location: Gabon, home-based - preferably Libreville
Contract length and remuneration: 12-month contract.
